Credit: Thinkstock GE’s FastWorks program is an agile, quick-turnaround approach for developing products in the same way that start-up companies do. In the opening keynote at the CIO Perspectives event in Houston in November, 2015, Neeraj Vijay, CIO, GE Flow & Process Technologies, GE Oil & Gas, told the audience about his experience with the FastWorks program and how he and his group learned how to “fail fast, learn quickly and move forward.” “The one thing it teaches you is that you can’t innovate by yourself,” Vijay says. “We are very open about this journey, and we’re experimenting and learning.” Vijay talked about how his innovation coaching work has changed the way he operates as a CIO, and how the IT group works differently now with its business partners. He also discussed early results in launching MVPs (Minimum Viable Products) and how they involve customers more effectively in the design process.
